Retreats

Fall Beach Day

In mid-September, the Newman Center hosts a Fall Beach Day to welcome freshman and transfer students and to introduce them to each other as well as some of the returning students at the Newman Center. This retreat is filled with fun, food, and fellowship!

End of Year Beach Retreat

At the end of the Spring semester, the Newman Center hosts an overnight beach retreat. The retreat serves as an opportunity to take time for prayer and reflection before the busy days of preparing for finals. Students are able to deepen their spiritual lives and grow in fellowship with new and old friends alike. This retreat is a great way to conclude the year!

Social

Game Nights and Hangouts

On many occasions throughout the year, the Newman Center Community will get together for games and hangouts! Such activities include going to Temple and Professional Sporting Events, Playing various sports (Basketball, Football, Frisbee, Soccer), Topgolf, Escape Rooms, Campfires, Exploring Center City, and many more. These social gatherings are instrumental in building virtuous friendships!

Dinners

The Newman Center has dinners throughout the semester for students to enjoy good food and fellowship.  A favorite is our weekly spaghetti dinner on Thursday nights at 6:30PM in the NC dining room.  Each year the Newman Center also hosts a Thanksgiving Dinner before the break to gather the NC student community and members of the administration, faculty, and staff of Temple University for a delicious meal complete with all the Thanksgiving favorites.

Adoration

The Newman Center holds weekly Adoration on Monday nights from 7pm-8pm followed by Night Prayer. The chapel is also open for quiet prayer from 9 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday. If there are enough people willing to commit to weekly adoration time slots, adoration will be available.

Community Service

There are many community service opportunities at the Newman Center. The main ways which we serve are through homeless outreach and the students at Temple. Our most popular service opportunity is called a Jesus Run. These are events where we go to Center City and hand out food/clothes to the homeless while trying to have meaningful conversations with them. On campus, we have service events such as block clean-ups, handing out water bottles to students going out to parties encouraging smart behavior, and working with the Temple Police Department for other ways to serve the community.

Other service opportunities include helping cook, set up, and clean up spaghetti dinner. Email Bridget McFadden, our social coordinator, to learn more. This is a great opportunity for other Temple organizations to get involved and fulfill their Community Service requirements!
